HONEST REVELATIONS

Some battles aren't meant to destroy you—they reveal what God is developing within you. The inaugural edition of The Release explores what happens when we stop running from difficult seasons and begin asking what God may be teaching us through them.

“And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death.” Revelation 12:11 NASB

The mentioned verse above is what drove me every day as I began the journey to giving Trey a chance and I don’t say that lightly because that’s exactly what I did. See, in the beginning of 2025 I had to start having some honest conversations with myself. Some may call this some self-reflection time. I realized that I may never accomplish the levels or platforms I aspired to be on if I didn’t give myself a chance. If I had waited on man or put my trust in someone to “guide” me to this destination, I would’ve set myself up for major disappointment.

And, I only had those thoughts because of previous mishandling. There it was. The echoes of my past that somewhat haunted me but, launched me into Promise. The words of people who I believed had my best interest at heart. And, I won’t dare say they didn’t love me. They only loved me how they could love me and not how I wanted to be loved or treated. That’s the battle when you encounter someone has pure and gifted as I am. Not to brag or be arrogant, I just realized that there had not been many people, if any, who could assess and see what God truly had purposed me to do in this life. And, if we’re being completely honest, I still have moments, in my reflective time, where I too question what exactly God wants me to do. These questions are often not asked, or we are too afraid to take on the challenge of handling someone who is multi-gifted. That is the tension when I refer to giving Trey a chance. I know I have the gift of singing, leading worship, songwriting, preaching and leadership. But what happens when you have those abilities and they can sometimes overshadow who is supposed to help you? Do they help you? Should they hide you? Maybe they should tell you that you aren’t ready? Or, like David’s brother they say your heart isn’t pure and your intentions aren’t great? This reflection led me to believe no one had the capacity or the time to truly pour into this vessel that seemed to always pour from an empty place but in a beautiful vase. From the outside in, you would think it is truly beautiful to be this talented and gifted. It must be amazing to be that anointed and walking in your purpose.

My favorite that people use to say was, “Man, if I had your voice.” And sometimes I would utter the words, “You can have it.” Why? Because if you could take on my hurts, pains, disappointments, rejections and could put on the mask to where people believe you are always making it, take it my friend. See, having honest revelations is realizing that maybe I don’t have it all together but by God’s grace my story won’t end with how my realities have tried to shape me. My live recording was birth from the mindset by the power of God; I will make it. I will make sacrifices and give myself a chance. A chance that no one else will. I won’t have to cheat for it. I won’t have to beg for it. I won’t have to lie about it. I won’t have to do anything that will not make God pleased for it because the simple fact, I’m an Overcomer means that I can withstand anything the enemy tries to throw at me because God is fighting for me. The same God who kept Daniel in a den of lions. The same God who kept Noah in a flood. The same God who delivered David time and time again. I serve a God who defends me when I seek to walk in purpose. That’s why I can boldly shout, I Am Who I Am. Paul says, what then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? That’s the power of declaring I’m an Overcomer.

When John says they overcame him by the blood of the lamb and the word of our testimonies, there is power in your words. Who do you say you are? Who do you believe God called you to be? Do you believe you are the head and not the tail? Do you believe you serve the Most High God? Do you believe that you are more than a conqueror? The undeniable power that one who calls themselves a child of God must know unequivocally that you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession. See, having honest revelations is understanding in God’s eyes we are truly precious in His sight and no matter the test you have to say, I am enough. Honest revelations are having an identity with yourself knowing you may not have made all the right decisions, you may have been with the wrong people, you may have took some wrong turns and maybe you’ve just been too hard on yourself. Hear these words. It’s time to drop your chains. Every word, decision, person, life deal that you may have made that wasn’t in your best interest, let it go. You’re still here because God has more in store for you and it’s time for you to lock in. The honest revelation is God is not done.

Encourage yourself with these words:

I may not have got it all right. I may have made some mistakes. I might have some bad days and want to give up. But now is not the time to throw in the towel. Now is not the time to give up. There is more to my story, and I’ve got a testimony to tell. There will be glory after this!

Now is the time for you to show up and give in to the process of getting better. My prayer is that from this guide you will be able to have honest revelations and understanding that your past does not define you. Because God cannot heal the person we pretend to be. He transforms the person we honestly surrender to Him. And because He’s God, He knows who we are. Today is the day, surrender to God.
